At the end of yoga class the teacher puts her hands together and says "Namaste"
The student repeats it back
Why?
What does Namaste mean?
Namaste:
I honor the place in you in which the entire universe dwells.
I honor the place in you which is of love, of truth, of light and of peace.
When you are in that place in you, and I am in that place in me, we are ONE.
First and foremost, remove your shoes before entering the studio
Arrive early--especially new students, please arrive 15 minutes early. (We do not encourage late arrival to class. It is not safe for you to skip the beginning and it is disruptive to the students who have already begun). We also have a small parking lot so you most likely will have to park on the street.
The recommended minimum age for all classes is at least 11 years of age.
Wear comfortable, modest clothing. Modest shorts or tights are preferred so the teacher can see the alignment of your legs.
Please do not wear heavy fragrances to class as some people are allergic.
Please bring a Yoga Mat (you can rent one from us for $1 if you don't have one).
Come with an empty stomach (do not eat anything heavy 2 hours before class).
Silence your cell phone.
Take off your shoes and socks upon entering the studio.
Please do not walk across the floor with your shoes on.
Place all your belongings in the cubbies.
Find a spot on the floor, stretch and settle down on your own, take a moment to be quiet, still and breathe.
Be patient with yourself, honor your body; focus on your needs; yoga is non-competitive.
Move with intelligence and intention. Listen carefully to the instructions the teacher gives you.
Respect those around you; yoga is a quiet practice. Abusive comments and ridiculing what others hold sacred is not allowed.
Let the teacher know if you have any injuries or challenges that could impact your yoga practice.
Progress in yoga is discovered within, postures should not hurt, pay attention to your limitations.
Be open to new sensations, make sure you can breathe properly in each pose.
Make yoga a priority, find time to practice at home as well. Yoga could be as simple as practicing conscious breathing--keep it simple.
The biggest obstacle in getting to yoga class is that life happens, and it is a challenge to make time for ourselves. In this busy, fast moving world we find ourselves over-extended and exhausted. Consider yoga an investment in yourself. We recommend getting to class 2-3 times a week if possible in order to experience optimum benefits. However, some yoga is better that none at all. So, even if you can only come once a week, it is supremely beneficial and devoting even a small amount of time to yourself this way will revive, refocus, and refuel your body.
